MEGAFAULT

*

You know those zero-budget sci-fi B-movies that come along every once in a while that are redeemed by unintended camp value? MegaFault isn’t one of them.

MegaFault - yes, a film of the earthquake disaster variety - warns the audience of what’s in store with the first of its opening credits: SyFy Presents….A Film by THE ASYLUM…  Most would run at this point, but again, this writer was open to the possibility of some satisfying cheese - and was curious to experience what will forever be the swan song of Brittany Murphy’s made-for-TV movies. Sticking it out through the six-dollar special effects (ok, so this film wasn’t exactly a zero-budget movie - to be fair, I’m sure at least six, maybe seven hundred dollars were spent on the visual thrills), I will acknowledge two lines of note, both delivered with great earnestness:

“It means…the MegaFault is now an extinction event!”

And the prize hog of the bunch (again, delivered in earnest…):

“Well, why can’t we?? …Why can’t we move the Grand Canyon?”

…prompting one IMDB reviewer to remark, “Who’s MegaFault was this movie??”

Avoid.
