PUSSYCATS & DEVIL DOLLS
Hello you wild insomniacs!
First of all, did you know that the bathroom at Raffallo’s, the Italian restaurant on Sunset & Fuller, has a vending machine in the bathroom that sells toothbrushes? With toothpaste already on the toothbrush? It does, I swear! There’s a picture and everything!
So yeah, Saturday night was great, wasn’t it?? It was awesome finally meeting so many of you face to face! Thank you for coming to the first of what will now officially be a recurring cult cinema screening series at the Vista! It was truly encouraging to see so many like-minded souls hungry for the fare that I intend to screen at the Vista and continue to promote for other L.A. theaters.
Thanks also for your patience with the late start - you all get major props for waiting patiently while we scurried about to get things going. Iron Man ran later than expected, its audience left quite the mess to clean up, and then we found we had some technical difficulties to work out with the speaker system. The speakers were necessary for the Black Devil Doll trailer and clip, and I’ve already heard back from many of you that the wait was worth it - that sneak peek really was something else, wasn’t it?? Still, I know it was cold out there, so thank you again for being patient with us.
Seriously, though, Black Devil Doll… That’s the third time I watch that trailer and clip, and it still just leaves me utterly slackjawed (and in the best way). And for those of you who stuck around after and had some beers with us, Jonathan seems like such a good kid, doesn’t he? It’s the quiet, seemingly decent ones you have to watch out for… Incidentally, Jonathan gave me a few
Black Devil Doll posters, so look for those as raffle prizes at the next screening.Hey, how great did Haji look!? We can all stand to hold up so well 40 years after our heyday! I, for one, am signing up for my ballet and jazz dancing classes tomorrow! Tappa tappa tappa…
Thanks to those of you who’ve e-mailed me suggestions for future screenings. I’ll work on lining some of those up. Also, if there was anything in particular that worked (or didn’t work!) about Saturday’s screening, let me know! - this is a work in progress, so I’m always open to feedback.
I will be covering the NYC Popfest in June, so look for the next screening in late July! In the meantime, I’m sure I’ll be seeing many of you at the great midnight shows offered weekly by the folks at the New Beverly, Regency Fairfax, Nuart, etc. I’ll keep the calendar updated.
